Do I Need a Party Wall Agreement for Cavity Wall Insulation?
Usually not. Cavity wall insulation blown into the external walls of your own house is normally outside the Party Wall etc. Act 1996. The position is less certain if the installer drills into or fills the cavity of a shared party wall.
External walls versus the party wall
Most cavity insulation goes into outer walls. These are your own walls, and no notice is needed. The party wall between attached houses is usually solid or may have a small cavity. Treating that wall is a different matter.
When it might count
Drilling into a party wall to inject insulation is work to an existing party wall. If it changes the wall or could affect your neighbour's side, a Section 2 notice may be needed. Whether filling a party wall cavity alone counts is not entirely clear, so ask for professional advice before proceeding.
Why it matters in practice
Party wall cavities can carry fire and sound paths. Filling them incorrectly can affect fire safety and neighbour comfort. Some installers deliberately seal them with a cavity barrier rather than fill them.

If you are buying or selling, insulation records may be asked for by a solicitor. Keep the installer's guarantee, the survey of the cavity, and any correspondence with the neighbour. These help if damp or cold spots are later blamed on the work.
